Drupad is electronic music producer based out of Bangalore, India. His works often demonstrate an influence from Indian Classical and folk. Drupad creates a varied selection of electronic music with a significant emphasis on melody in his productions.

Although Drupad’s music includes some “organic” samples, it is created mostly using digital synthesizers and production software. At once uplifting and otherworldly, the music of Drupad combines multilayered synthesizers with beats and ethereal vocals, serving as a mystical escape route from the trappings of reality.

Apart from creating music, Drupad also writes about music, in the writing for esteemed publications like All About Jazz and Allmusic.com, under his real name – Bhasker Gupta. Born in 1982 in North India Drupad went on do his graduation in science from the holy city of Varanasi. It was here that his roots of Indian classical music were established.

Continuing his early fascination with music, Drupad was later drawn to electronic music, inspired by its ability to combine the best of organically played instruments/ vocals and the synthetic pleasures of sounds more exotic to the human ear. After playing Bass guitar for various indie rock bands in India, Drupad started tinkering with sounds of many studio recordings. That was all it took to trigger a full-blown love affair with electronic music and the process of its creation.

Drupad lend his moniker from a style of Indian Classical music and his club-friendly electronic experimentation is heavily influenced by traditional Indian music (especially North Indian). One finds Drupad’s music both uplifting and devotional as it passes seamlessly through a lush digital expanse of infinite expression. Drupad believes that making and listening to music is a way to escape – putting on headphones is a great way to leave reality behind for a while, reminding yourself why it still makes sense to carry on.
